It isn't often we encourage you to visit a place because it quite literally won't exist soon. And yet the Yangtse's Qutang, Wu, and Xiling gorges have just five more years left before they're submerged in the most ambitious hydroelectric scheme in human history. Best not to delay your visit. But of course the autumn days of these scenic, archaeologically rich gorges are by no means the only reasons to visit China. Not by a longshot. There are graceful temples, dynamic cities, and a surfeit of important archaeological sites. Crisscross this enormous country. Feel its diversity. Soak in its expansive history. Just come see it all while it all remains to be seen.
